Featured Artist Mia Hebib's Fashion Forward Jewelry
Posted by John Speaks and Keiko Mita on on 8th Jul 2015
Our featured artist this month, Mia Hebib, came to America after the Balkan War in 1996 and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Metals and Jewelry from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2001. Her design language focuses on the journey of the line – how it moves, creates a form, becomes a shape. She likes to watch the line repeat itself and mimic what happens in nature, not intentionally but intuitively.
Her collections bring together the fashion forward aspect of jewelry design and the handcrafted tradition of making jewelry. Her most recent collection, the Brass Band Collection, is made from gold plated brass and is bold and elegant with an architectural form. In 2011 Mia was the artist in residence at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City and has exhibited internationally as well as in the United States.
