David LaPlantz’s 3-17 Brooch is hydraulically formed, pierced, engraved and cold connected. Punched from industrially painted aluminum sheets into 2” diameter circles, each piece begins with a sketch and is completed within two hours to keep the idea fresh and alive. David calls his brooches “cartoonos roundos” because of their similarity to cartoon panels in a newspaper. Some tell a story while others require words or symbols. David’s 3-17 Brooch is an ode to those who are gone but helped to make us who we are today.
"While walking through the back pages, certain times, places and people who once were came to life again. As seen in hindsight, we are reminded of who were are, how we got to this exact point and time and why we are, who we are. Thanks to all of the known and unknown mentors who gave us their lives along the way to forming the clay of today."
